Vision and Goals
For some time, there has been a movement in Chicago to gather and seek God’s presence corporately in extended times of intimate worship and praye. The city’s prayer furnace has been quietly operating for almost a decade and has come within 19 hours of 24/7 intercessory worship. In that time, many churches from across the region and denominational spectrum have set aside a block of hours every month to worship and pray this way.
Burn Chicago seeks to support this greater movement of God in Chicago by connecting and resourcing all the associated churches and movements. Our goals are:
- To model extended intimate intercessory worship
- To create a familial association of churches and groups engaged in such worship
- To promote service in the city’s prayer furnace
- To develop further models and applications of extended intimate intercessory worship
Hence, unlike other localities, Burn Chicago is more of a coordinating and promotional resource. We initiate few Burns; most are organized by churches in the various neighborhoods and suburbs of Chicago and put on our calendar. Our desire is for Burn Lincoln Park to collect the churches of Lincoln Park in worship, to be encouraged by and learn from the experience of the churches already burning in Elgin, to take a place at the Prayer Furnace of Chicago, and to spread the vision to other communities. Burn Chicago seeks to provide the means and resources to do just that.
NEW Burn Chicago Directors
Earlier this year, Burn Chicago director, Michael Richter, announced his decision to move his family from Chicago. Michael worked hard to create a network of like-minded people and ministries and to facilitate prayer and worship gatherings throughout the Chicago area. We are sad to see him leave, but at the same time we are excited to see how God leads and provides for him and his family.
In August of 2009 Sean Feucht and the Burn 24-7 board of Directors asked Jeremy and Sandy Hudson to move to Chicago to serve as the Burn Chicago Directors and from Chicago oversee Burn 24-7 in the Great Lakes area. Watch this page for frequent updates as Jeremy and Sandy get settled in to their new routine.
Jeremy and Sandy have been a part of Burn 24-7 from it’s early days as a small student-led ministry in Tulsa, OK. They are excited to see what GOD is going to do in the city in this season.
Burn Chicago Partners / Prayer Ministries in Chicago
The Prayer Furnace of Chicago is where the churches of Chicago come together in intercessory worship before the Lord. At this point, roughly 75% of the week’s two-hour slots need teams to offer worship.
Campus America, the US student arm of the Pray 24/7 movement, seeks to build a prayer furnace on every campus in Chicago.
We know of burns in the following communities: DeKalb, Downers Grove, Elgin, Humboldt Park, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Logan Square.
Churches who support Burn Chicago
This list of churches who support Burn Chicago is very incomplete. If you are part of a church or know of a church that supports Burn Chicago by hosting events or financially, please contact Jeremy to add the church to this list.
