After two days of training, the nine of us set out for Clovis, New Mexico to release fire onto the Cannon Air Force Base. Our team stepped out and ministered in supernatural unity that night, and God sent a torrential downpour both in the natural and the spiritual. After a stop at the Grand Canyon, we went to Las Vegas, Nevada where we met some of our Burn family. Our hearts connected with theirs immediately as they shared their vision for the city. After pressing in for hours on the streets of Las Vegas, we experienced breakthrough as God poured out hope and joy, even in the midst of hopelessness and depression.

From Vegas, we went to Los Angeles to minister with a ministry that is part of the Dream Center called Hope for Homeless Youth. In Redding, we had a wonderful time meeting with Beni Johnson as she shared her heart for this hour and prayed over our team. From Redding, we headed to Chico to team up with the Chico Prayer House to pray for God to breakthrough in their city. Next, in San Francisco, we declared that a movement would come from that place that would change the culture of the youth of this nation, just like the hippie movement did years ago. We ministered on the streets and called for life and true freedom to reign instead of the counterfeit that is so prevalent in that region!
We ended the trip with a bang in Sacramento, the capital of California. We got a chance to burn in the capitol and declare the Lord’s will for our nation. During our last night of worship God showed up in an intense time of battle! God was calling us to step up to a higher level of warfare and ministry, and every member of the team and many people in the congregation responded. That night victories were won for that church family and the area.
The next morning, our team packed up and made the forty hour trek back to Oklahoma. It was an intense three weeks filled with struggles, victories, and lots of driving, but we set out on a mission to call the wilderness into bloom and we did just that! Glory be to God!

Burn Wagon Midwest
Trip Recap by Josh Cotts

The Midwest Burn Wagon was one of the most intense and anointed trips I’ve ever been a part of. From the hot and humid city of Ardmore to the cool Northwoods, God revealed Himself in a mighty way. We believe His purpose for this Burn Wagon was to release a uniting spirit, a family spirit, the spirit of Elijah to key families across the Midwest, but also to bring the body of Christ in this nation together under one head.
Our trip began in Ardmore, where God showed up and wrecked the whole place. We found ourselves singing, “We welcome You,” inviting the King to take His throne among His people. While God revealed to us that a spirit of pride hovered over the area, we came in humility, believing that God would literally obliterate that spirit. Aside from the warfare, God showed up…and that’s what matters most! Because wherever He reigns, the enemy can’t!
We then were led to Little Rock, Arkansas where we ministered at Living Stone Fellowship. As soon as we arrived, our eyes were opened to the spiritual atmosphere. So much grief, so much toil. Just depression…everywhere. During the service, God couldn’t help but pour out his oil of joy on this body! He was saying, “It’s time to get out of the pit!”
The majority of our trip was spent in Wisconsin where, I hate to say it and I love to, we went through heaven and we went through hell, but it was all what the Lord wanted. Division…that’s the only word that could describe that spiritual atmosphere. But thanks to the revelation that we had received during the Burn Wagon kickoff about how we only needed to create a throne for the King to sit on, we made it! Our team struggled with division several times while we were there, but every time, the Lord allowed for Himself to be glorified. Our dirt was brought to the surface and we were cleaned up. Aside from what happened with the team, God connected us to what we believe was a couple that God had special plans for as to what would happen in their region. We had the incredible opportunity of being able to live with them for a week, encouraging them, worshipping with them, and interceding for and with them. God was calling out Wisconsin’s destiny and fulfilling a prophesy that was made by Smith Wigglesworth about a fire of revival that would start from the Northwoods and stretch throughout the nation. We called out for those dry bones of vision to come alive and their destiny to be fulfilled!
The next stage in our trip was in Minnesota, where we met up with Josh Lindquist, leader of Generation Revival, to minister in a youth meeting. Compared to all of the other locations we had visited, this was like an open heaven, so it was refreshing for us. Ha ha! The youth meeting was awesome. It was full of just simply declaring over this generation their purpose and destiny. Not to mention that a lady had given a prophesy about a week before we arrived that was some of the exact same things that we had been singing that night! Fire!
We ended up in Arkansas, first at Fort Smith, and then at Bentonville. In Fort Smith, still…we had an open heaven. We ended up singing, “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it!” It was a time of more destiny! Gosh! I’m getting tired of that word because it’s all I’m saying…but I’m really not!!! At one point during our worship time, it had started raining, and the rain was coming down so heavily, that we could barely hear ourselves sing and play. So, we just stopped playing! As we sat there in silence, the Lord’s peace filled the atmosphere. It was reviving!
Then…Bentonville. Wow! Let me tell you…I’ve never felt so much fire inside a room the size of a master bedroom than I did there. God renewed vision for the fire of a Burn to return and we spent the last hour of it just loving on Him. He is such a good God!
Though at times it seemed we were walking against the wind, God came through every time. Not once did He leave us behind. We literally carried His presence and His throne into every city and region that we traveled!

Burn Wagon Gulf Coast

To say the Lord moved in a mighty way this summer would be an understatement. We are truly seeing with our own eyes a whole nation be awakened to the call of the King, and the best part – He’s doing most of the work. Our entire trip to Mexico seemed to be administratively sabotaged purely that the Lord might display the wonders of His glory. Many times we get all too frustrated when things don’t go the way we planned it, but our team began to embrace the beauty of this divine intervention in every city we set foot in.

This was Burn Wagon’s first international destination, and I can assure you that we see the application of this vision spreading like a wildfire. K.P. Yohannon wrote a book several years ago called Revolution of World Missions discussing the importance of raising an army of native missionaries to bring the Gospel to their own nations. We had the amazing opportunity to have 3 Mexicans from the Burn in Matamoros on our team! They travelled with us for 2 weeks across their nation, and everywhere we went there was an incredible amount of authority on their words and their worship. There is a sound rising in Mexico and the Latino community that cannot be silenced.

Our whole trip was motivated by a vision the Lord gave me over two years ago about the Latino community. In this vision the Lord took me up to look at the globe and began to ask me to point out all the areas of the earth that have experienced or are experiencing revival and harvest. As I moved my finger around the globe I noticed a great void of marks in Central and South America. The Lord began to smile as he told me His plans for this region of the earth. If any of you have been around or known anyone of Hispanic descent, you should know how passionate these people are about EVERYTHING! Whether its food, dance, or conversation, passion is a pillar in their ethnic design. The Lord showed me that the people of this community contained a song that carried the authority of the Levites that would bring great victory to the Bride and ultimately call Christ for his return to earth. It was so inspiring to see the truth of this revelation as we discovered hungry, passionate people all over Mexico worshipping the King with all their being.

Our team carried an anthem message to almost every city we visited – the principle of the “better thing.” In Luke 10, we find the story of Mary and Martha. All of us are familiar with the story, but the Lord began to highlight an important phrase in the passage. When Martha vents her frustration to Jesus about Mary doing “nothing”, Jesus responds to Martha by saying, “Martha, Martha. Don’t you see that Mary has chosen the better thing. And it will not be taken from her.” Wow! What we can learn from this is that there are two modes in Christianity, sitting and working/preparing. Both are very important (even Jesus recognized this), but the better thing is to sit before Him at his feet. Why? It is in this position that we begin to cultivate a relationship that inspires acts of love rather than acts of obligation. The Gospel has been so poorly portayed in the Hispanic community and has never quite separated itself from Catholicism and slavery. As one of our team members put it, “All the indigenous tribes were given two options: 1) Convert and live the rest of your life as a slave; 2) Die.”

We had the honor and privilege of sharing this great message with the people of Mexico! We saw countless people weeping in the ponderings of new revelation of the love of God for them. A nation was given the opportunity to sit, grow, mature and fall in love with a God who no longer measures them by the callouses on their hands but by the fervency of their hearts for Him. Pray, pray, pray for the Latino community as we continue to take this message back again and again. I promise you that this is the time for the great harvest and many, many souls are ripe for the picking. Pray that God will continue to flood the earth with the knowledge of His glory until we are all overwhelmed by His waves. God Bless!

The Transition into Sonship

Smack dab in the middle of a typically busy summer itinerary (which has landed us on the West Coast six separate times thus far!) came a weekend that will forever become a monumental marker in my life. The most recent adventures across our destiny charged nation of America through OR, ME, CA, SD, OH, AK, OK, AZ and NC yielded extremely powerful and heavenly testimonies of transformation, miracles, salvations and enjoyment of the goodness and radiance of His face. Divine relational connections coupled with raw corporate encounters in the Presence of God has resulted in a dramatic extension of the “tent pegs” to the vision God entrusted us with more than four years ago.

But what was infused in my spirit last weekend was even more noteworthy, cataclysmic yet profoundly rich. Bittersweet sounds trite at best and is not a word that even touches the emotional collision of anguish and joy that continually flooded my heart the last few days. My entire family (mom and three sisters plus spouses) traveled to our hometown (and my birthplace) of Missoula, MT. Our purpose in going was twofold: firstly, to gather the long-time family friends for a memorial celebration service thanking God for the life of my dad and, second, to visit my dad’s favorite place on earth: Glacier National Park.

HOMETOWN HEALING

Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the colorful hippie college town of Missoula was my family’s home for more than 18 years. It was also the best “playground” a young adventurous boy could grow up in! The community that made up our little Assemblies of God church accurately displayed what ‘Ecclesia’ really means (for more on my childhood town, including some crazy stories, an entire chapter covers this in my new book “Fire and Fragrance” out Sept 1st). So a few nights ago, in the little chapel behind the church, they all came out. Faces I have not seen since I was seven years old appeared for the most beautiful, honest and pure memorial service I have ever been apart of. I could have stayed there for hours on end. I did not want the endless stream of stories, testimonies, reflections, tears and laughter and to ever stop. Waves of healing, gratefulness and awe crashed over my heart and brought joy to my family.

****Side Note – [Many peoples reaction in wake of such a tragedy defaults to reluctance to remember a person or story in order to shield each other from the pain of loss. So, quite often in our culture we simply try to act as if nothing ever happened. Most of the time, this social pattern is a cover-up for the shallow dimension of our relationships and reveals our refusal to cope with the authentic emotions of each other’s heart. Simply put: we prefer our convenience of conversation (i.e. – How are you doing today? Good. And you? Good).]

But despite what most people think in the wake of such a loss, I could listen to these stories, words and testimonies endlessly! Sometimes all I truly long to do in conversation (especially with people that knew him well) is remember my father in this way.

Having to lead worship and share at this small town memorial was clearly one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life. Even leading for 35,000 worshippers packed in a massive stadium never seemed so daunting. From the first chord that night, there was such a beautiful flood of His presence as this congregational choir made up of his old friends belted out my dads favorite songs (“I exalt thee” sure made the list as his AG favorite!). Friends, family, colleagues, doctors and pastors shared reflections, inspiration and hope while bearing their heart through weeping and laughter, sorrow and joy. There was a nearness and sweetness of God that never lifted from the gathering. We experienced the truth of these words in psalms:

“Precious in the site of the Lord is the death of His saints.” – Psalm 116:15

THE TRANSITION AND DICHOTEMY

Similar to many prophets, leaders and believers across the world in this season, I have been seeing the numbers “1111” just about everywhere. It started last fall as we were “transitioning” our home base from Dallas, TX to Harrisburg, PA and has not stopped yet. From license plates to billboards to clocks and even hotel room numbers, these four digits seem to haunt me! It is not hard to prove numbers are very important to God and can carry many different biblical meanings. Some of the strongest biblical interpretations for the numbers “1111” are definitely transition (11 signifies this), awakening (John 11:11), reclamation (Isaiah 11:11) and faith (Heb. 11:11).

My heart has been frayed with the most dramatic and vast dichotomy of last three months. I feel even that feels like an understatement. Just as the pain of losing my greatest encourager, mentor, friend and earthly father becomes too much to bear, I glance over at my wife’s ever-expanding pregnant belly and am instantly filled with an unspeakable hope of what is to come. This is the best of times and the worst of times. The most drastic transition of my life at hand: from losing a father to becoming a father.

THE SPIRIT OF ADOPTION

I have been crying out ever since my father went home for an endless supply of wisdom, revelation and strength in this trying hour for my beautiful daughter on the way. I do not think it was a coincidence that the first three messages I heard spoken from three different cities on my first trip out since my dads graduation carried the message “The Spirit of Adoption.” Rather than shy away from a message and topic that would arouse much pain, there has been a special grace for my heart to press into the kingdom realities of “sonship” and “identity” lately. In fact, it is the only topic I can speak on as it is what is authentic to my spirit.

God has been illuminating many astounding facets of this surreal life as kings, priest, sons and heirs we are now born again into. We are surely living in a “fatherless” generation where a catastrophic “identity crisis” is the primary cause of our dysfunction between each other and with God. I have personally come to grasp the truth that He indeed is “the father to the fatherless, a defender of widows” (Psalm 68:5).

TWO ENCOUNTERS

Facing my own insecurity of becoming a father in a mere three weeks (hopefully not any sooner : ), I doubt that I’ve prayed out this four letter word to God more frequently in my life: HELP. There were two encounters this past weekend that marked me and therefore thoroughly messed me up (in a good way) during this fervent plea.

The first took place just a few days ago as I was jogging alongside the swift mountain river that cuts through the heart of my hometown. As I was wrestling with the sober reality of not having an earthly father to look to as my own time of “fathering” quickly approached, I was caught up a sort of crazy trance. Snapshots flooded my mind of unique and special moments growing up. Flashing before my eyes was the very moment I first rode my bike, my very first soccer game, a hunting trip, sledding in the sub-zero temperatures, the Royal Rangers award ceremony (you AG kids know what I mean!) and many more. In every single memory, my dad was there, was engaged and cheering me on. I began to weep uncontrollable during this as the Lord spoke to me in a strong but gentle voice, “You have been given the example to live by.”

The next encounter took place in my father’s favorite place on planet earth: Glacier National Park. We spent at least an extended weekend or week each summer I grew up exploring this Northwestern Montana treasure. Camping, hiking, fishing and taking thousands of pictures of the grandiose and breathtaking scenery along the “Going to the Sun Highway” marked these special trips. It was like heaven on earth in this “off the beaten path” glorious getaway.

There is a lodge on a lake near the entrance of the park with handmade ice cream and a massive gift shop. While my sisters and mom shopped (frequently for hours!), my dad and I enjoyed the taste of hackberry ice cream while having a rock-skipping contest on the placid glacier lake. I am thoroughly convinced that this is the lone perfect spot on earth where skipping rocks was invented. I had a goal for the rock to skip on the water at least 15 times as they flung out of my hand. He cheered me on with every throw.

As I revisited the bank of this lake, the words of conversations past with my dad flooded my memory. On those afternoons far away from everyone else, we talked about anything and everything that was on the mind of a 6 to 11 year old. He made sure that we didn’t retreat from that place without me hearing how much he loved me and was proud of me as his son. As this was the first visit of my life to this spot without my earthly father, my heavenly released this same confirmation over my heart in an almost audible voice: “I love you with an endless love and I am so proud of you, son.” The sound of this authoritative voice pierced my heart.

THE EAGER EXPECTATION

In light of all that my family and I have gone through and the fresh perspective of identity that has graced my broken heart, I believe that there is an authority coming on my personal message as well as our entire Burn 24-7 tribe scattered across the nations of the world to trumpet the reality of “sonship” and “adoption” in Christ. This is a message that could not be timelier for this season of transition God is calling our generation into.

The hopeless, rejects and dying of the world are not looking for a polished, relevant “professional” itinerant showcasing a plastic and palatable Christianity to reveal to them the meaning of all life. But as a desperate and exhausted flight attendant uttered to me just yesterday as our Boeing 757 was soaring off the runway, “We all just want to find out who we are and why we are here, right?”

The world is searching for an identity that we have been mandated to display. For unlike the rest of humanity, we believers are not “enslaved by fear” but possess the “Spirit of sonship” by which we cry out “Abba Father” (Romans 8:15). And creation is longing, waiting, hoping, looking for this very reality and sense of belonging! Coming out of this trial of heavy loss in my own life, this simple truth is my reward, recompense and renewed vision.

“All creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.”

Romans 8:19

Let us all transition now into a new season of “Sonship” across the globe!
